ROMP Free, Shine, & Switch: Affordable Suction Toys courtesy of The Vibed

If you’ve made your way to my blog as a regular or even if you’ve stumbled upon this post through some 3 AM internet dive, you’ve probably heard of clit suction sex toys: media has gone wild over their marketing as toys guaranteed to make any clit owner cum in 3 minutes). But, in case you haven't or if, like me, your memory is less than perfect in the wee hours of the night, allow me to give you a refresher. Clit suction **also known as air pleasure** sex toys use pulsating air to stimulate the clitoris (or nipples) WITHOUT direct touch or vibrations. If you’re like me and previously swore by a vibrator that registers on the Richter scale, chances are you’re skeptcial. And while I won't claim that air pleasure sex toys--or any sex toys for that matter--will work for everyone, my work with The Vibed has turned me into an air pleasure fanatic: I cum harder and faster, and I can keep going as many rounds as I want.

Until recently, Air pleasure toys were pricey with entry level models from the OG company Womanizer starting at $80 and increasing dramatcilly for more practical features. Those days are over. ROMP--a newbie in the sex toy industry that’s quickly gaining traction--has come out with not one, not two, but three affordably priced clit suction toys. In this review/mini-guide, I want to help you figure out if these toys are a good fit for you and if so, which one you should pick: spoiler alert, don't just grab the cheapest.

Specs (Shine):

  • Pink with white mouth

  • 49.99 ($43 with code QUEER15 at The Vibed)

  • Waterproof and rechargeable

  • Silicone mouth and abs plastic body (not TPE: it is listed as this on some websites due to miscommunication. Phallophile reviews and Peepshow Toys have confirmed it is not made of TPE, and this goes for all three).

  • 6 inches long

  • 10 speeds (clit suction toys often don't have patterns and none of these do)

Specs (Free):

Specs (Switch):

Okay, so as you can see there are some similarities and some clear differences, the main one being rechargeable vs. battery operated and size with the Free being a convenient travel size and the Switch & Shine being more standard sized. But there are actually some key difference beyond those that first pop out to consider when picking one of these bad boys out…

I was surprised to find out that, in this case, power does not come in the biggest package. Other reviewers have said that the Shine is the strongest and while I respect them greatly and a number of factors could influence our reviewing discrepancy, I simply don't agree. The Free feels significantly stronger and more intense on my clit than the Shine. Now it’s possible that this more intense stimulation comes from a closer fit on my clitoris with the Free's head . I’ll touych more on clit fit later on in more depth, but the Free may not be for you if you have a clit on the larger side of things.

The Shine actually fell in the middle of the three for sheer power in my testing with the Switch falling Just slightly behind.

This one is going to come down to personal preference. I get annoyed with the short body of the Free as someone with large hands. It feels infuriatingly small and like my hands will cramp if I were to use it for more than about 20 minutes. The Shine and Switch both feel easy enough to hold with their extended handles, and I prefer the slightly longer handle of the Shine but honestly, the difference between the two is negligible.

All three of these toys are what I would consider affordable for clit suction toys. The only other toys that are comparable in price are made by Satisfyer. I have no personal experience with these but you can do a quick google of Satisfyer reviews to see what others think about them.

While the Switch is the cheapest, you also have to keep in mind that you’re going to need to repurchase batteries which will quickly bring it up to the same price point as either Free or Shine. If you’re pressed for money, I’d recommend the Free as it will likely be cheaper in the long run since you won't have to buy more batteries.

Will it fit your clit?

The Switch and Shine have identical mouths that will accommodate many but not all clits. The opening is moderatley sized and extends out long enough that some clit length can fit into the silicinoe portion without worry of hitting the moving part of the toys that provides the air sensation **your clit is not actually meant to touch the moving plate**. If your clit is more than about a centimeter in diameter or length, I would steer you away from the Free as it may not be as comfortable to use. None of these will fit every clitoris but I feel like they will fit a sold majority; if you are concerned that your clit may be too big for these toys, go and check out some Womanizer suction toys that come with different silicone heads.

Bottom Line:

Overall, these are three great toys at their given price points. I think that the shine and freeware going to be the best options for most people but if you hsve a reason not to use rechargeable toys, then go with the switch. Check out the Free, Shine, and Switch here and use code QUEER15 for 15% off your order.

The ROMP Shine, Free, and Switch were sent to me by the wonderful people at The Vibed in exchange for my honest review. As per usual, all my opinions and statements are 100% my own. If you’d like to send me a product for review, go to the Work With Me page to get in touch.

I'm A. (she/they), a clueless queer and blogger. I started this blog because I grew up in a small town where sex--especially queer sex--wasn't talked about. I was a determined youngster and managed to scrape the bottom of the internet barrel to find the information I needed (and later, the information I wanted). Now that I've learned a bit about queer pleasure in all of its forms, I wanted to create the resource I wish I'd had; a place where I could read about someone else's experiences and learn about sex from a pleasure-centered perspective. If you have a question about something or want me to cover a certain topic, just shoot me an email! Chances are, I've been there and would love to help or at least offer some moral support, and who knows, maybe others could benefit from a post about it.
